What Happen to Horror movie in Indonesia?

Indonesia is a country with a lot of kind cultures, with all that Indonesia have, Indonesia should have many masterpiece in art, including in movie. But some of movie critiques are disappointed with Indonesian movies, especially in horror movie.

Before 2010,  horror’s filmmaker in Indonesia adopted Indonesian urban story in their works. Pocong, Kuntilanak, Santet, or haunted house was picked by horror filmmakers in Indonesia. But in early 2010. It seems that Horror’s filmmaker have no idea in making horror movie. They put some other erotic scene in their works, such us showering scene, the nurse with sexy breast, etc. why is this happening?

Basically, this is film producers’ responsibility. The movie is never exist if its never produces. But Film producer not only the one who have to blame in this situation. Because they need to earn money.

This is a little information in making film in Indonesia, every movie who will be screening in theatre must pay at least 500 million Rupiahs and every single person who went to theater, the production house will gets 8000 Rupiahs when theatre sell each ticket in 35000 Rupiahs.  If 3 billion Rupiahs was lost in making one movie. They must sell the movie to the television for 200-300 million rupiahs. Its not enough to covering the cost of one film if the number of people who went to theatre is under the target. Production house may get bankrupt.

So the solution is to push the cost in filmmaking process. for example, research in making a great story  is expensive. So they make their own story. They also try to not use a lot of location. So the horror movie its solution. Because horror movie just use less location than another genres. They also take some unrated actress with good appearance and sexy body. And here we are.

Unfortunately, this kind of movie rises to be a popular one in Indonesian audiences. People love to see the newcomer actress with their new sexy underwear. They didn’t care about the story, the message, or something to learn in watching movie. They only wait for the scene when the actress take off their clothes.
